OLIVIA RUELLO’S TOP TEN

This past week I was invited by Facebook to represent Australia at an APEC event in Vietnam, which was run by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg. I along with six other women from Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, and Japan had the chance to talk with Sheryl over lunch. We discussed ways we are working to support women to succeed in business and ways Facebook might be able to work even harder to support the growth of women in business and entrepreneurs. It filled me with the possibility for all that’s to come.

  1. AMY SCHUMER’S BOOK, ‘THE GIRL WITH THE LOWER BACK TATTOO’
I’m reading two books at the moment, Hillary Clinton’s ‘What Happened’ which is a thick hardback that I didn’t want to take on the plane to Vietnam, so I got to the airport and realised I didn’t have a book. I was in the bookshop at the airport texting my friends about what I should buy and ended up buying Amy’s book. I have gone from Hillary’s book, which is an angry manifesto with a bunch of deep policy, to Amy’s book, which is really funny. I can’t even repeat some of the content, but I was laughing out loud on my flight.
  2. KAREN JAMES’ PODCAST, ‘GET ON PURPOSE’
It’s given me a much stronger clarity of purpose. Certain decisions I was making were feeling a little bit off, and this podcast pulled me back in. I’ve always been very clear on my purpose but sometimes you can lose track, and this is a really wonderful podcast to help you get back on track – that’s what it’s done for me!
  3. ‘OZARK’ ON NETFLIX
I’ve just finished watching ‘Ozark’ and absolutely loved it. It’s kooky and unusual, but so watchable. Jason Bateman is brilliant in it. I secretly (or not so secretly now) have a crush on him!
  4. SMILING MIND
Jane Martino, the founder of the ‘Smiling Mind meditation app‘, spoke at our recent Movers and Breakers conference on Hamilton Island. I was blown away by some of the statistics she shared about mental health in young children, particularly those in primary school. I try to do it for 10 minutes once a day.
  5. CUDDLES WITH GRACIE
I’m so grateful for my seven-month-old daughter, Gracie because she was a long time coming and she’s such a character. I’m just grateful she’s healthy, happy and that she’s thriving.
  6. UBEREATS
My husband Andy and I order Ubereats probably more than we’d like to admit! Our current favourite is Chargrill Charlie’s. I’ll get a salad and chicken – they do the best salads – and I usually end up eating Andy’s hot chips.
  7. SLEEP
I try to make up for the week-long sleep-deprivation on the weekend by trying to fit in time for a nap. That’s pretty much as good as it gets. Our weekends aren’t what they used to be! We’ll have a few wines with friends if we can, but mostly it’s just spent catching up on sleep.
  8. MY EYEBROW FILLER BY HOURGLASS
This eyebrow pencil is the bomb. It’s so good and easy to use. It’s really natural; I just love it. It’s my one thing I don’t leave the house without.
  9. JARDAN HOMEWARES
Jardan homewares have just opened up at the end of my street. I pretty much just go and hang out, I love their ranges. Jardan and MCM house, are my two go to places at the moment. I’m looking for a new bed.
  10. WHAT’S APP
I’m a Whatsapp junkie, I’ve got so many Whatsapp groups going at the one time. I use it for friends, for work, and because most of my family is on the West Coast of Australia and in the US, there’s a Ruello family group too. It’s the most efficient way to communicate quickly.
