8 simple steps to boost your wellbeing today

“Wellbeing cannot exist just in your own head. Wellbeing is a combination of feeling good as well as actually having meaning, good relationships and accomplishment."Martin Seligman

Wellbeing goes far beyond simply being free from sickness and stress; wellbeing is a state of thriving and includes social wellbeing, which is characterized by communities of people working together for the common good.

Today we look at 8 areas of life we focus on in personal coaching or mentoring when developing wellbeing. You may like to use your journal (such as the Journey Of Me) to evaluate using a measurement from 1 (poor) - 10 (great) where you are right now in terms of the mastery of each element. Or you may like to print this page out and make notes in the columns. Be honest, you can always allow room for improvements!

Let’s have a look at some of the essential elements of wellbeing.

1. Building relationships, good relationships are by far the most important factor in wellbeing.

2. Exercise, getting fit and staying healthy.

3. Practising gratitude, it’s connected to positive feelings.

4. Identifying and use your strengths.

5. Creating flow, this often happens when your level of challenge is right for your level of skill.

6. Giving with kindness, contributing to community increases your social wellbeing.

7. Spiritual practises such as meditation can improve wellbeing, reduce stress and can include belonging to a faithful community.

If you develop your wellbeing other areas of your life will benefit. Wellbeing is the foundation of all developmental processes and will not only help you do flourish in life but in the workplace too.

By being mindful of these 8 essential elements you can begin to take the first steps to intentionally enhance your wellbeing. If you’re struggling to connect with any of the 8 elements, and do know you're not alone, or you want to optimise your development of each, get in touch with a mentor to support you in getting started.
