Instagram is continuously cited as the worst social media network for mental health and wellbeing. While the photo-based platform gets points for self-expression and self-identity, it’s also associated with high levels of anxiety, depression, bullying and FOMO, or the “fear of missing out.”
But it’s also the fastest growing social media platform, and boasts over 500 million daily active users worldwide. So how do you participate in this platform, without the negative effects? 
We asked our founder Amanda McMillian to weigh in on this conundrum. Amanda believes that it’s all about who you follow. “Keeping your feed full of beautiful images, positive messages and things that inspire and motivate us is essential,’ says Amanda. ‘I actually love scrolling through my feed as I get snippets of love, learnings, and happiness. Anything that doesn’t reflect this, I simply unfollow. It’s about controlling what you allow to enter into your headspace for the day.’
